The Moorlands Project – Preserving Heritage, Building for the Future

Box Capital Developments was entrusted with the full renovation and extension of The Moorlands, a listed family farmhouse that had remained untouched for decades. While the property held immense character, it lacked the modern comforts essential for today’s living. This project was a transformative overhaul, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge design to create a home that honours its heritage while embracing the future.

Challenges & Objectives:  The main goal was to modernise the farmhouse while preserving its historical integrity. The existing heating system needed a complete upgrade to provide efficient warmth, and the lighting system was designed to create a calming atmosphere throughout the home. In addition, the family required more functional living spaces, leading to the decision to extend the house.

Key Improvements:

• Heating & Lighting: We installed a state-of-the-art heating system to ensure consistent, energy-efficient warmth. The new lighting system was carefully selected to enhance the ambience and provide a sense of tranquillity.

• Extension: The house was extended to include a spacious, modern kitchen, a utility room, and a luxurious master suite. The extension also provided additional rooms for visiting grandchildren, offering the family more flexibility and comfort.

• Exterior & Landscaping: The project involved significant exterior work, including a full redecoration and landscaping. The extension was constructed using handmade red bricks that perfectly matched the smaller, older bricks of the original house, ensuring a seamless blend between the old and new.

We spent a year on our Farm House in Warwickshire, re wiring, plumbing, central heating re designing the lay out of the existing house and building a large extension which included a new kitchen, hall, second stair way , 3 new bathrooms and two bedrooms.  Charles Playfair who was involved all the way through as a product manager.  My husband left it mostly to me and without the help and good advice from Charlie what could have been a really stressful year resulted in a most enjoyable project.  His knowledge in all aspects from building work to tiling, designing  hearths, carpentry jobs and just about everything was invaluable.
