The Challenge:

The Old Post Office, a historic building previously converted into a 2-bedroom cottage, needed a transformation to improve functionality and living space while preserving its original character. The property required extensive modernisation, including new plumbing, electrics, and insulation, to meet current standards. The ground floor suffered from damp issues, and the original footings needed reinforcement to ensure structural stability. Additionally, the project sought to add a single-storey extension for more living space and enhance outdoor landscaping while retaining the building’s traditional charm.

• Extension & Space Optimization: A single-storey extension was added, increasing the property’s usable space with a boot room and downstairs cloakroom, enhancing functionality for modern living.

• Full Refurbishment & Modern Upgrades: The property was fitted with new electrics, plumbing, and underfloor heating. The ground floor was excavated to rectify damp issues, allowing for insulation that meets current building regulations and further stabilisation with extensive reinforcement of the original footings.

• Interior & Exterior Finishes: Inside, two new bathrooms were added, and a bespoke, locally handcrafted kitchen was installed to enhance the cottage’s character. Oak flooring and preserved original beams ensured the interior retained its charm. Aluminium windows were installed for durability, and a new roof was designed to align with the local architectural style.

• Garden Landscaping: The rear garden was thoughtfully landscaped with railway sleeper steps to manage level changes, and the original stone walls were repaired and retained to maintain the property’s heritage feel.

The result is a beautifully transformed Old Post Office that seamlessly blends modern convenience with historical character. The full refurbishment and single-storey extension have created a spacious, inviting environment.
